About Me

Hello, fellow curl friends! My name is Jessica Gonzalez; I am a native New Yorker of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent. For years, I used to straighten my hair and have all kinds of treatments that would cause my hair to lose its pattern. Around 2016, I stopped wasting my time and money treating my hair (straightening treatments are expensive!) and went all natural.

Mind you, it took me about a year to grow my hair out naturally curly and a big chop to get rid of the parts that would not recover. My hair was insanely short! But, with time, it grew and grew and became very long. While I had to learn a lot from trial and error, such as which ingredients work for me, which don’t give me as much moisture as I wish, and which are good when the seasons change.

I am proud to say I have been naturally curly for six years! My hair has been growing and has been healthy since!

So… Why did I make this blog?

With more and more women embracing their natural hair, I wanted to create a resource page to help those who may not know where to begin or what to look out for when taking care of their natural curls. I have made soooo many mistakes that have even made me have to take medication to come back from.

Our hair is a part of our identity, so I hope this blog will help anyone who may need an extra hand in understanding how to manage curly hair or those who want to learn more about the science of curly hair.

What was the journey like?

It took FOVEVER! But, it was worth it, check out the images below!

2013, undergoing hair treatments for about two years

Left side was the big chop in 2018, the right side is a year of taking care of my curly hair and using no heat or treatments.

2023, 6 years of taking care of my curly hair and experimenting with style and color only.
